Weather

Introduction

Are you ready to tell the weather without help? You will be able to read a thermometer and tell the temperature and how to tell what the weather outside is. This wil help you know what to wear outside and when it's a good time to go outside, without your parents help!

Task

By the end of this you will be able to:

1. Tell the temperature on a thermometer.

2. Check the weather on the internet.

3. Pick out clothes for different weather.

Every day you will keep a weather journal. You will read the temperature off a thermometer and check the weather on the internet. You will record the temperature in the morning and what the internet says the weather will be for the day. Then you will draw a picture of what you should wear for the day. We will be doing during our morning routine this year.

Process

First we need to learn how to read a thermometer.

Here is a video to explain how to read a thermometer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q48kxEzwubQ

Use the information in the video to document the temperature in the morning.

Next you will need to go to this website to see the weather for the day. http://kidsweatherreport.com/ Type in the zip code 58203. This will tell you the high and low temperature for the day. It also says what the current temperature is. Does it match the temperature you got from the thermometer? It will also tell you if its sunny, cloudy, snowing, etc. Record you findings in your weather journal.

Next, you need to draw the clothes you should wear for this weather. This website will help you dress your drawing correctly. http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/evscps.sci.ess.watcyc.dress/dr…

Click launch and find the season to match the weather. Dress the person. This will give you an idea of what you should draw on your person.

When you come into the classroom in the morning get out your weather journals. There is a thermometer outside the window that you will use to check the temerature. Then the classroom computer will have the weather site up for you to look at. Then draw what your person should be wearing today.
