"Life and living"

Introduction

Hello students,

Today we will work with the topic "Life and living".

You have already learned a lot of words on this topic. You learn more about house facilities. At this lesson you will have some more practice of the useful language. By the end of this project you will have learned how to design the perfect house. You should learn all the given information in order to cope with all given tasks.

Task

Now get your attention to the tasks. If you had a lot of money and could design yourself a dream house, what would it be like? Think about the following factors, then compare in groups:

- House or apartment

- Size, number and functions of rooms

- City center,suburbs, countryside

- Country or region

- Near to bus or train station

- Space for  entertaining

- Space for  working

- Style of  furniture and fittings

- Extras: swimming  pool, office, sauna, Jacuzzi, heating, etc.

Before doing tasks, you are to read the plan of this  lesson.

The plan of the lesson:

1.Work with the vocabulary  

  • do training  exercises in order to revise your essential vocabulary

2.Reading  task

  • read the text  for more useful vocabulary on the topic

 3.Practice your grammar. Conditionals I 

  • do training  exercises in order to improve your grammar 

4.Listening task

  • Listen to people  talking about their dream houses 
Process

Read all the given information, try to memorize everything!

·        If it's written to read the text, read it! 

·        It's good if you make any notes!

·        If it's written to do training exercise, do it! But if you made any mistakes, do task again!

At the end you are to make a presentation! Everything that is given at this lesson will help you to deal with the last task easily!

   2).  "Reading task".  At the end of the page you find the links to the text. Read all the given information. Then answer the following questions: 


1. What flat do you live in?
2. What house would you like to have?
3. What modern conveniences and appliances would you like to have in your future house?
4. What is the decor of the rooms in your future flat or house?
5. Would you like to live in the city or in the suburb?

This web-quest is designed for individual work in order to review a unit my students are studying "Life and Living". The main  purpose is to foster students' sense of investigation using different sources. Also, they are going to use and wide vocabulary and expressions regarding housing and furniture. They are going to describe their "Dream House". The lesson can be done in class or at home.

Standards

The aim of this activity is to give students practice in reading for specific information. As well as to stimulate thinking about alternative ways of expressing meaning and promote vocabulary development.
Other

This kind of activity arouses students' motivation and invites them to work differently. It allows them to learn using technology. Taking into account that our students love technology and that they are Digital Natives web quest is one of the best tools to carry out this work.
