Persuasive Speech

Introduction

This webquest provides you with articles to support your thesis on the persuasive topic you have chosen.

1). Before you begin researching your topic, you should complete the persuasive speech organizer.

2). Your next step is to read articles that relate to your topic and find facts to support your thesis.

3). Look for facts and opinions that coincide with your reasons and thesis statement.

Please stay on the articles that are provided and do not click on any other links when you open up the article. Remember, we only have a limited amount of time to research, so stay on task!!

Task

What should I look for in the articles that I read?

*Look for facts that provide you with statistics, for example, "in 2009, 50% of elementary students voted yes to wearing school uniforms".

*Look for opinions that are supported by credible/trustworthy people, for example, the CEO of a company, the principal of a school, and other important people.

*Look for information that is logical, for example, does it make sense?

Use the research guide "Facts, Reasoning, Opinion to Support your Persuasive Speech". This will help you keep your notes organized.

*Make sure you keep track of which article you are getting the information from.

*Make sure you accurately record quotes from the article (write exactly what is said).

*Make sure the facts support your opinion, reasons, and/or thesis.
