Speed

Introduction

Introduction - To catch a cheetah

Mirror Mirror on the wall. Who is the fastest of them all.

Can the world's fastest human ever timed outrun a cheetah in the wild?

Task

Task

You are going to be doing experiments to find out speeds of certain objects.

Your assignment is to come up with a presentation if it's possible to catch the cheetah by running faster than it based on the experiments you are going to do.

Requirements of your presentation:

-10 minutes long.

-Include the table of the results of your experiments.

-Provide reasons/explanations of the results you have obtained.

Process

TASK 1:

In groups of 4, label yourself student A, B, C and D. Student A,B, C and D to run 50m, 100m, 150m, and 200m respectively. Record the timings of each run and record it in the table. Given that Usain Bolt ran 300 m in 30.97 and that a cheetah can run 113km in 60 minutes. Find the quickest person/animal.

Task 2:

Would a object falls faster than the fastest person/animal? Try dropping an object at 50m, 100m, 150m and 200m respectively and find its speed.

Evaluation

This is how your work will be evaluated:

  Meh! Getting There! Excellent!
Information

Did not watch the two links, used the formula wrongly.

Used the formula correctly, did not answer the question properly for either of the tasks.

Used the formula correctly, accurate answers for both tasks given.

Table of results Messy representation, wrong units stated, missing results. Missing one or two results/results that are obviously an anomaly but not re-tested. Results are all stated and are believable.
Presenting of results No visual aids. Some visual aids but does not aid with the presentation well. Clear with aid of diagrams and pictures of the students doing the experiment.

Conclusion

Congratulations!

You have understood average speed! But... have you caught your cheetah?
