Major Parts of the Nervous System

Introduction

In this webquest we will explore the major parts of the nervous system and how they work together. By the end you will be able to model the nervous system, it's different parts, and how it works.

Task

TASK

First:  Students will do a hunt a word puzzle to be introduced to the terms used in the nervous system. The links for a couple word searches can be found here.

Second: Students will use the internet to research the terms found in the puzzles to become familiar with the terms and what they mean.

Third: Students will be able to use games and interactive websites to see the way the nervous system works and which parts interact directly or indirectly with one another.

Fourth: Students will make a rough draft of the nervous system model I am asking them to create at the end.

Fifth: Students will create a model of the nervous system on a poster for the class to see their understanding of the system.

Process

In a group of 4 at the most, you will be researching and identifying the different parts and terms of the nervous system. There will be 4 different positions in this project so I can ensure each one of you gets out of this project what I want you too.

1. Presentor: The person who will ultimatelybe the voice and face of the project. This person will need to be comfortable in front of an audience and be able to speak clearly and understand the concept being covered in the project.

2. Researcher: The person who will be doing a lot of research on how exactly the nervous system works and what makes it work. this person will be driven to find out as much as possible about the subject and be able to relay it correctly to the rest of the group.

3. Collaborator: The person who will keep everyone on the same page and keep everyone moving in the right direction for the project. This person will be responsible and have good people skills to keep everyone on task.

4. Creator: The person is the most responsible for getting all the information down on the poster for the presentation. This person should be artistic in a sense and be able to neatly project the idea clearly for the presentation.

You will need to work as a group and relay the appropriate information to each other as it is found so everyone is up to speed on the project. There must be 10 terms used in the project to be familiar with.

The ten terms that must be included are:

1)  Cell Body                   6)  Central Nervous System

2)  Dendrites                   7)   Cerebellum

3)  Neuron                     8)  Brain Stem

4)  Axon                        9)  Spinal Cord

5)  Impulse                    10)  Peripheral Nervous System
