Introduction
A report has just come into the United States Department of Education stating that many students are not aware of the dangers associated with the internet. One topic especially important to the Education Department is catfishing. The report included many facts on such as:
1. 87% of teens have observed cyberbullying
2. Of the students reporting the cyber bullying, 11% received a text message from another student intended to hurt their feelings
3. Of the students reporting the cyber bullying, 13% reported concern about having to go to school the next day.
The director of the United States Department of Education finds the information very concerning and wants to warn the school systems and its students about how to properly navigate the internet. However, the Department of Education has many other important issues and will not have time to get to this issue.
This is where you come in. It is your mission to find accurate information on catfishing in order to give a report in place of the director of the United States Department of Education. In this report, you will have to give ideas on how to stay safe in a world full of catfishing.

Teacher suggestions:
This assignment is made for 7th graders but it could really be used at any grade level to inform students of the dangers of catfishing. I think it is important for students during their middle school years to be aware and research this type of information so that they stay safe throughout the many unknowns of the internet. Middle school is a time where students start to become interesting in dating other people and this would be a great lesson for them to be informed on so that they can make safe and wise decisions as the move on to high school and beyond. It is a lesson that is connected to the standards of technology and allows students to dive into a world that will be so prevalent and important to them in the future.
