Caribbean Colonization

Introduction

Webquest for 6th grade Social Studies/History

Topic: Caribbean Colonization

One day while going on your daily walk with your family, friends, or pet, you happen to stumple upon a secret magic portal glowing in the bushes. Curiosity causes you to step through into the portal. You then realize that you have traveled back to the time of colonization and the wonderful sunny beaches of the Caribbean are not singing the same cheerful steel drum tunes. The ships of different settlers are expoiting the natives and forcing them into labor for goods and gold.

What can you do to help? Is there another way? Why did all of this happen?

These are some of the questions you will be answering our your journey through this webquest.

Day 2:

- Find alternative to colonization or find a way to make it beneficial and fair for everyone.

    a.  In what part of the Caribbean country or island would you begin your plan (use this map to assist you).

    b.  Why would you begin trying to change or stop colonization in this particular part of the country?

    c.  Why did you choose this plan, and how long will this plan take to be effective?

- Combine your own questions and research together with your group members.

- Now that you have your research complete come up with a presentation plan.
