Final Wetlands Review

Introduction

Today we will be reviewing and taking a quiz on what we learned about wetlands last week. This includes food chains and how the government supports the wetlands and works for the common good.

First, play some games! You have 25 minutes to review.

  1. Practice making food chains by going to https://ecokids.ca/swf-files/gamesPage/chain_reaction.swf. (Even if you played the game last week, play it again and pay special attention to what happens when you take an organism out of the food chain.)
  2. Read and review information by clicking on the correct matching cards. http://www.studystack.com/matching-2379230
  3. Play Pac Man by answering questions correctly. If you get eaten by a ghost, you have to answer more questions! There are ten questions in the game. http://www.classtools.net/pac/201612_bbdNa7
  4. If you have extra time, watch these videos about how the Audobon Society and Texas Parks and Wildlife help protect the environment and educate others. Write one thing you learned from each video in your Inquiry. Title your page, "Protecting the Environment."

Now it's time for the quiz! Ms. Pagel or Ms. Rowans will hand out the quiz. Once you finish, you can come back to this page and do the extra activity below.

Time for an extra activity! Let's go all the way back to "Our Government."

The government works for the common good, or for the benefit of everyone in our community. Let's take a look again at how our federal government works. Listen to Tim and Mobi speak about our three branches of government: https://www.brainpop.com/socialstudies/usgovernment/branchesofgovernment/.

Now let's focus in on Congress, which makes up the Legislative Branch of the U.S. government. Below are some of laws that Congress makes for Americans. Choose one and write a paragraph in your Inquiry notebook about how the law helps the common good or benefits citizens of the United States. Title the page, "Congress and the Common Good." Write another paragraph and tell what kinds of laws you would make if you were in Congress.

  • Congress makes educational laws, like the ones that say kids have to go to school
  • Congress makes laws that set standards for vehicle and highway safety and says how fast you can drive on highways.
  • Congress makes laws that protect animals and nature.
  • Congress makes a national budget and makes laws on how we should spend our national money.
