Reflection and Refraction of Light

Introduction

The physics learning course of class 12 is hard and often difficult to understand. One of the biggest topics in this course is the topic about light, lenses and mirrors. To understand all of that, you need to learn the basics of reflection and refraction of light.

It is easier to understand things while watching a tutorial video in which every move is explained. Hopefully this video will teach you everything you need to know to understand this topic.

Task

Watch this video about reflection and refraction of light and be ready to answer some questions.

Process

Answer these questions :

1. What is the first and the most important law of reflection?

2. Why can't you see your face in the table?

3. What is the difference between the irregular and regular reflection?

4. How is the axe connecting two of spherical mirror centres called?

5. What is the refraction of light?

6. How many definitions of refractive index are there?

7. What is the Snell's law?

8. In what direction does the ray of light go when it goes from less dense to more dense?

9. Why does the light bend when it goes from one material to another?

Evaluation

Answers of the questions :

1. The angle of the Incident ray will always be equal to the angle of the Reflected ray;

2. Because the surface is rough and the reflection is irregular;

3. Rough and smooth surface;

4. The principal axe;

5. The bending of light when it passes from one transparent substance to another;

6. There are 4 definitions of refractive index;

7. n1sinOi = n2sinOr;

8. The ray goes towards the normal;

9. Because of the change in the speed of light.

Conclusion

Now you have learnt about the reflection and refraction of light which will hopefully later help with learning about lenses, rainbow and optics.

To understand this topic even better, I suggest you visit some interactive sites about physics or in your course book.

Good luck!
