We all know that you would rather be home watching TV right now. Whether we'd like to admit it or not, most of us like to indulge in the lowest, most garbage form of television entertainment: reality TV.

If we were writing a speech about this topic, we would need to make sure we have FACTS that are RELIABLE and TRUE! If we do not present accurate information, our speech loses all of its influence.

Today, we will go on a WebQUEST to decide:

  1. What makes a source reliable (has true information)
  2. What makes a source unreliable (could possibly have untrue or false information)

Process

In order to decide whether an Internet source is reliable or unreliable, you must look for certain "clues" on the website.

Please complete these steps below to determine whether the Internet sources listed below are reliable or unreliable:

1. Check out the websites about reality tv listed below. List which ones are reliable and which are rubbish on the Categorizing Worksheet. There are 3 reliable and 3 rubbish websites.

2.  Pick one reliable website and one rubbish website, and complete the Reliable or Rubbish Handout for both (one on either side of the paper).  Be sure to answer each question on the chart by circling Yes or No and adding details when necessary.

3.  Using your Reliable or Rubbish Handout, write down your top 6 to 8 qualities that RELIABLE SOURCES HAVE.  Write down your top 6 to 8 qualities that  RUBBISH (UNRELIABLE) SOURCES HAVE (or what they are missing) in the chart on your Categorizing Worksheet.

4.  Place a STAR on your chart next to the 3 qualities of a Reliable Source that your group thinks is most important to have!
