Introduction
Adjectives are used to modify a noun or a pronoun ; a describing word basically. They are usually positioned before the noun or pronoun that they modify.
Examples:
pretty, red, tired, translucent, etc.
TYPES OF ADJECTIVES
- Descriptive Adjectives
- Numeral Adjectives
- Demonstrative Adjectives
- Possessive Adjectives
- Interrogative Adjectives
Task
Descriptive Adjectives
They are used to describe something about the quality or the kind of the noun or pronoun they’re referring to.
Examples:
- Erica showed us her shiny ring.
- The contents of the round package were a mystery.
- She has a big heart.
Numeral Adjectives
They are used to denote the number of nouns or the order in which they stand and answers the question 'how many' or 'how much'.
Numeral Adjectives can be divided into three types. They are:
- Definite Numeral Adjectives : first, two, second, four, third, three, seven, eighty five, one third, double, triple two fifths, half, seventh, etc.
- Indefinite Numeral Adjectives : all, no, many, few, some, any, certain, several, etc.
- Distributive Numeral Adjectives : each, every, either, and neither etc.
Examples:
- Thirty-five stamps were needed for the invitations.
- Susan asked the teacher for more water.
- He is going to sell his two cars.
Demonstrative Adjectives
It points out a noun or pronoun and always comes before the word being modified. These, those, this and that are demonstrative adjectives.
A singular noun that is nearby, for example, would be referred to using “this.” A singular noun that is far away is “that.” A plural noun close at hand is “these,” and a plural noun in the distance is “those.”
- Near: This (singular) These (plural)
- Far: That (singular) Those (plural)
Examples:
- Jason wanted that toy.
- Are you going to see this movie?
- Those bags are for the students.
Possessive Adjectives
Used to show possession or ownership. Always remember that it does not use apostrophe. The singular form for possessive adjectives are : my, your, his, her, and its. The plural form are : our, your, and their. The possessive adjective my can be both used in singular and plural form.
Examples:
- Our dog is black.
- Their house is huge.
- That is my seat.
Interrogative Adjectives
Are used to ask questions and are always followed by a noun.
- What are you wearing?
- What movie are you watching?
- Which plants should be placed over here?
Process
An adjective modifies a noun or a pronoun. There are five kinds of adjectives :
- Descriptive Adjectives
- Numeral Adjectives
- Demonstrative Adjectives
- Possessive Adjectives
- Interrogative Adjectives
1. Descriptive Adjectives are used to express the size, color, or shape of a person, a thing, an animal, or a place. They are used to provide more information to a noun by describing or modifying it.

2. Numeral Adjectives are those adjectives which are used to denote the number of nouns or the order in which they stand. There are three types of numeral adjectives namely:
- Definite numeral adjectives: one, sixth, fifth, double, two, fifty five, second, triple, seven, eleven, seventy fifth, quadruple, fifteen, first, one third, five seventh, twenty, third, ninth, first, etc.
- Indefinite numeral adjectives: some, few, many, all, no, several, any, most, more, too, much, none, too many, certain, etc.
- Distributive numeral adjectives: each, every, neither, either, etc.

3. Demonstrative Adjectives are used to describe which noun we’re talking about through demonstration. It points out a noun or a pronoun.

4. Possessive Adjectives are used to show possession or ownership.
