Are Animals Being Treated Right?

Introduction

Today in class we talked about what PETA is, and the 4 main areas that animals are mistreated. We will be looking more into how animals are treated and whether or not you think that is right.

Task

Your task today is to look at the 4 main areas of animal suffering:

1. The Food Industry

2. Clothing Trade

3. Laboratories

4. Entertainment Industry

Once you get an overview of what each area is and how animals are treated within that area, choose one you want to explore in detail. You will discover what happens over the course of an animals life in this area, from birth until death and after death.

Some probing questions if you get stuck could be:

- are these animals born for this purpose? if they are, what do you think about that?

- do you think these animals are happy?

- what are the laws, if any, about the treatment of these animals (in your area)?

Process

Using the links below, please complete research on the treatment of animals:

Teacher Page

For our class, we are looking at Animal Rights and Research.

Objective: The objective of this lesson is to explore animal rights and research by completing a web quest where students have the choice to explore one of the 4 main areas where animals suffer the most. By doing this, a good foundation will be created for our next class’ field trip to a local animal shelter (Kentville SPCA).
