PSYCH!

Introduction

With this Webquest, you will be discovering and researching three areas of psychology.

The three areas of psychology you will be learning about are cognitive psychology, behaviorism, and the social cognitive theory.

Your responsibility of this webquest is to navigate through and compare and contrast the three different areas of psychology.

Each "team" should have a sheet of paper with every student who is on the team's name on it.

The team will select a "leader" and the leader will be responsible for writing the answers on the group paper.

Every student should have their own sheet of paper with their name and answers on it as well.

Everyone should participate and do their part.

Have fun and happy learning!

Task

The task for today is to travel to various websites. You will follow the given instructions and do what each step says in order to be successful.

#1 Go to the website https://www.simplypsychology.org/behaviorism.html.

The team is responsible for reading the Behaviorist Approach article and writing down the definition of Behaviorism.

#2 Go back to the google search engine and search Cognitive Psychology definition.

Click on the first Result which is the site:http://study.com/academy/lesson/what-is-cognitive-psychology-definition-theories-quiz.html.

The team should watch the video that is pulled up on the web page labeled What is cognitive psychology? Definition & Theories

The team needs to watch the video as a whole and write down what the definition of cognitive psychology is.

#3 Once you have the definition of cognitive psychology, go back to the Google search engine.

Type in Social Cognitive Theory in the Google search engine.

Go to the search selection that comes up as: http://sphweb.bumc.bu.edu/otlt/MPH-Modules/SB/BehavioralChangeTheories/BehavioralChangeTheories5.html

Answer the following questions by using the article on this web page as a reference.

Question 1: What did the Social Cognitive Theory start as?

Question 2: Who founded the Social Cognitive Theory? (First and last name)

Question 3: What is the unique feature of the Social Cognitive Theory?

Question 4: What are two limitations of the Social Cognitive Theory?

Process

The reason we are doing this is to explore the differences in these three areas of psychology.

Just like they can be the same, they also differ as well.

Every student will have the opportunity to get on the computer and do this webquest for themselves.

Everyone is paired up into teams because I want this to be a fun activity that everyone can do together.

Everyone can take time and talk and explain what they think about the different aspects of psychology that we have been discussing.

I want everyone to TALK and DISCUSS and SHARE what YOU think about these theories!

Evaluation

Once you are finished and have completed the 3 steps on the Webquest, make sure you have all of the answers answered.

As an individual, make sure you have the answers answered on your own sheet of paper as well.

The team leader should hold on to the Team's sheet.

Every student should turn in their own answer sheet into the RED box.

When everyone is finished with their Webquest, we will go over the answers together as a class.

Conclusion

When every team is finished, we will go over the questions and answers together as a class.

Answers to Webquest questions:

1. Behaviorism: Behaviorism (also called behavioral psychology) refers to a psychological approach which emphasizes scientific and objective methods of investigation.

2. Cognitive Psychology: a branch of psychology concerned with mental processes (as perception, thinking, learning, and memory) especially with respect to the internal events occurring between sensory stimulation and the overt expression of behavior

3. (Below)

#1 - Social Learning Theory

#2 - Albert Bandura

#3 - emphasis on social influence and its emphasis on external and internal social reinforcement.

#4 *The theory assumes that changes in the environment will automatically lead to changes in the person, when this may not always be true.

*The theory is loosely organized, based solely on the dynamic interplay between person, behavior, and environment. It is unclear the extent to which each of these factors into actual behavior and if one is more influential than another.
