As you prepare for this amazing media program, you will need to plan for various responsibilities. How will you research the topic? What questions need to be answered?  What is the Women's March? How will you travel to the March? What types of people are involved in this discovery? Why is the March happening? What obstacles might you face in reporting the news?

Keep in mind the viewers at home may not know what the Women's March represents. It is your job to tell this story in words that everyone can understand. A reporters log will need to be maintained throughout your research.

Your completed task will be using your questions and answers to create a news story video of your coverage of the Women's March. Each team member will report their news facts during the video.

PROCESS

To better understand the subject you will begin this WebQuest assignment by first watching the attached video on International Women's Day  Women's International Day

As you prepare for this important story, your team must decide what questions need to be answered for this news coverage. First look at the attached link Women's Marches History  and discuss how you would like this story to be told. Use your Reporters Log Reporter's Log to help you make a list of questions. Remember: the viewers at home may not understand what the Women's March is trying to demonstrate. It is your job to educate the viewers at home.

After writing your questions, take a look at the My Hero to identify why women's rights need to be supported and why the Women's March is taking place. Choose a female who you feel made important changes for the community. Write an expository essay of at least four paragraphs on the female hero you have identified and why you feel her story should be told.

Your team will work together as a group to organize your media coverage of the Women's March on May 8, 2017. Your team will keep an account in their reporters log of new information they have researched to prepare for the event. Look here for additional information. Women's March Pledge

Use the research links provided and read about additional female heroes who have worked to support the rights of women and children. Share your essay on the hero you chose with your team and discuss the important changes they made. You should have a list of issues the women attempted to change or support. Work together with your team and compare your list of issues. Answer the following questions in paragraph form.  Hero Graphic Organizer

Choose one important issue you have identified and write an entry in your reporters log discussing the importance to Americans today. Use examples from your research to explain in detail.

Once your research is complete, you will work together to write a script for your news report. Each member of your team will take turns "reporting" on the Women's March. You can choose one role for the report:

  • On the scene reporter
  • News anchors in the studio
  • Witnesses to the March
  • Someone walking in the March

Your script should give each member of your team a chance to report on the "what, why and how" the March is happening. Your report will be on video. After the story is filmed, you may email the video to the classroom website.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

You gave your fellow citizens a strong story about the Women's March and the problems facing women in our country. You also have a better understanding of women who have tried to make positive change in our country. Marvin Trueblood is very pleased with your news story and has nominated your team's video for an Emmy award in Outstanding News Journalism! Please accept his good wishes for your success!

Now that you are familiar with the context of your female hero, you will have a better understanding on the life that they have lived and the important change they made in your life.

We will be holding an Open House on May 12, 2017. Our classroom will be displaying the projects completed and all video news reports will be projected on the screen in our classroom.  I will upload these videos onto our classroom YouTube channel and will be played on a continuous loop.

As an extra credit project,  I will be looking for a few volunteers to dress up like the female hero or as a someone who was influenced by the female hero you researched as part of your news report. Our female heroes or someone who was influenced by the female hero will be present to share their accomplishments to our visitors. Please let me know if you would be interested in representing your famous female at our event.

If you are not interested in representing your famous female or as someone who was influenced by the female hero - Your research project will be proudly displayed during our Open House on May 12, 2017 for all visitors to enjoy reading.
