The universe and its particles

Introduction

These tasks will test your knowledge of the universe and its particles, such as planets and stars.

Here is a video material, that gives a little insight into the Universe.

Task

1. How old is the Sun and the Earth?

2. How did oxygen come into existence?

3. What is the average temperature of the Earth?

4. What is parsec?

a.The distance traveled by light in vacuum in one year

   b. equal size unit with the distance of a lightyear to the Sun

   c. the distance, which corresponds to the distance at which the mean radius of the earth's orbit subtends an angle of one second of arc

5. What is a black hole?

6. What are the elementary particles we know of?

7. What is a perfect example of how the universe was created?

8. What are quarks?

9. How many leptons exist?

10. What are cosmic rays?

Process

1. 4,6 miljard years

2. As a result of the first organism photosynthesis.

3. 15 degree celsius

4. c

5. a region of space having a gravitational field so intense that no matter or radiation can escape.

6. electrons, protons, neutron, quantums

7. The big bang

8. any of a number of subatomic particles carrying a fractional electric charge

9. 6

10. a highly energetic atomic nucleus or other particle travelling through space at a speed approaching that of light.

Evaluation

If you got 8 - 10 questions right, then you did really good.

If you got 5-7 questions right, then you did alright, but you should read the chapter again.

If you got 1-4 questions right, then read over the chapter again and try putting down some notes to help you remember things.

If you got 0 questions right, then you should rethink your dreams about becoming an astronaut and move onto something else.

Conclusion

The universe in an amazing place and everyone should know at least something about it, learn, kids.
