Bear Hunt (Reading Activity For Kindergarten)

Introduction

We Are Going On A Bear Hunt!

We have a big day planned with lots of fun things to do & see, so let's get started!

Task
  • Have students bring in bear stuffies for the day of the bear hunt.
  • For the morning we can start the day off by doing a bear in hibernation craft & reading the bear hunt book.
  • During circle time we can talk about hibernation & how it works for a bear.
  • During there playtime we can setup the classroom move there teddys into circle time to watch the bear hunt movie, have teddygrams for a snack next to their teddys, put footprints from the bear around the classroom & in the allway where the kids will go. (make sure you can combine with other teachers so one can setup while the other watches the children during recess & ensure safety.)
  • After lunchtime watch the movie the bear hunt.
Process
  • Bear in hibernation craft: Construction paper: light blue for the main piece, brown bear cutouts, black for the cave, cotton ball for the top of the cave, white paint for the snow, glue.
  • Hibernation circle time: cards the have pictures of animals that hibernate & who do not with velcro on the backs, two different areas/rows, a velcro mat so we can stick them on.
  • Setting up fun time/hunt: Bear footprint cutouts we can tape on the floor, bearhunt movie, teddygrams for snack, snackcups.
  • Movie: have blankets layedout for kids to make it comfy.
Evaluation

This goes along with Florida State Standards: LAFS.K.RL.1.1,1.2,1.3,2.4,2.5,2.6,3.7,4.10

Also goes along with Blooms taxonomy & the students are able to succesfully achieve this

Conclusion

This a great activity that is not only fun for the kids but also they are learning a whole lot & its a way to teach hibernation in a creative way.
