Psychology of Coaching

During this web quest you will be exploring the world of coaching. You will be looking into and answering questions about a term called "positive psychology coaching" and how that plays into famous coaching styles from some of the best. To better yourself as a coach is to learn as much about your craft as possible. To do that, you surround yourself with as much knowledge about coaching as you can to decide what works best for you personally.

Task

Today your task will be to do research on the topic of Positive Psychology Coaching and it's origins. This should be done with a partner in an effort to spark your own discussion on this type of philosophy and when it may be best to utilize. As you go through this, try and build your own philosophy to discuss.

Process

You are to do a Google Scholar search for "positive psychology coaching" and get links to five scholarly articles explaining what this philosophy means. After you have done some research, answer the following five questions. All of the answers and links are to be emailed to me upon their completion.

1. When and by who was the phrase "positive psychology" first used and what was it's goal?

2. Who reignited the philosophy 30 years later and what was the interaction that led him to the idea?

3. What is "Positive Psychology Coaching?"

4. Most of the scholarly work focuses on the topic outside of sports, how does this translate into a philosophy of coaching sports?

5. Make a case for a coach that you know about who utilizes this philosophy of coaching.

Evaluation

I will grade the assignments as they are emailed to me. You will get 2 points for each of the sources and the questions will be graded out of 5 points for a total of 35 points. There is no requirement for length of answers, I just ask that the questions are answered fully and thoughtfully. 

Conclusion

Now that you've finished the webquest, you should have a better understanding of positive psychology coaching. Use this information to further your own coaching philosophy and how you can improve the performance of your team in a constructive manner.
