Rock Cycles Exploration

Introduction

We will be exploring rock cycles in this unit. You will be divided into three groups to do research. Groups will be divided into sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. You will have to learn to teach the class where these rocks are found, and the process of how they are formed. Your job as a group will be to answer these questions using various websites. You will also create a visual media to present to the class when discussing your type of rock. Each student will individually create a poster via Canva or another website with the rock cycle as a whole.

Task

View the following cites:

This will give you a basic background about the rock cycle as a whole. Now, in your groups research your specific type of rock using these websites, texts provided by me (the teacher), and through your own web searches.

For each rock:

  • Explain where it is formed (geographically).
  • How the rock is formed.
  • Its place in the rock cycle.
  • 1 Fact per person in your group you find interesting.

You will need to visually present all of this to the class. So... create a poster, PowerPoint, Canva presentation, or video and be prepared to present to the class to inform them on your part in the rock cycle!

Each student also needs to create a poster with the rock cycle. You will need to have a title, visual image, and 3 facts on the rock cycle. The poster must be visually creative, neat, and tasteful looking.

Process

Step 1: Research websites

Step 2: Break into groups and research specific rock.

Step 3: Create media.

Step 4: Create individual poster.

Step 5: Present.
