Introduction

Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world. Nowadays we can hear and read about football matches and players everywhere we go, TV, news, magazines etc. Imagine yourself being a journalist and writing an article related to sport or a sport event, where you have to sound professionally. To sound like a real professional you should keep in mind using sport idioms. By completing this task and learning how to use sport idioms you will develop your critical thinking, improve your writing skills, expand your vocabulary and enjoy talking about sports. Have you ever wondered how does it feel to write a sport report?

Task

In groups you will have to write a match report where you have to use at least 6 sport idioms. To sound like a real professionals there are many steps and things to consider, using idioms will lead to better writing, make sure you use sport idioms in appropriate way. Another point to be mentioned is the tips and tricks you should consider for achieving your goal.

Process

You will be divided in groups where you will have to imagine that you are being journalist and your task is to write a match report, it can be a soccer match, volleyball match, basketball match or any sport event. There will be 5 groups; each group will contain 4 students where each of you will have their own role. Each student’s role will be to:

Conclusion

As a conclusion, students are able to write a match report, based on the steps on how to write it, they learn new vocabulary related to soccer. Besides this they have the chance to use the new idioms and new vocabulary in an appropriate way. While working in groups they can also correct each other and cooperate with each other.
