Third Grade Astronomy

Introduction

As we start our new unit the astronomy unit, we will now be exploring  our outer world, also known as space. In this unit we will be learning more in depth about the planets, moons, stars and the sun. We will discuss how the planets align, how eclipses happen, the phases of the moon and the different seasons. Our main focus this uni will be to gain knowledge on more than what is around us.

Task

In this unit you will be going to the website www.kidsastronomy.com once onto the website under the section titled "outer space" you will click on the link 'The Solar System". this is the page you will mainly use for your assignment to answer the following questions under the process tab. 

Process

In this section below you will find the 10 questions that you are to answer that go along with the website. There will be a separate sheet with the questions and fill in answer area for you.

  1.  How do scientist believe the Solar System evolved?

  3.  What is the meaning of the Suns name?
  4. What is the biggest object in our solar system?
  5. In Greek Earth was known as the mother of what?
  6. What is the definition of an asteroid?
  7. How many moons is Mars known to have?
  8. What is the planet Pluto also known by?
  9. Who named the planet Pluto and what was so unique about it?
  10. What are the two types of eclipses that can occur?

Evaluation

-effectiveness of being able to tell different plants apart, phases of the moons and also being able to tell the difference between the two types of eclipses

- Able to take quiz and answer lecture questions with easy 

- Able to navigate website provided and provide feedback

Conclusion

The goal of this unit is to have a better understanding of our solar system and what causes certain things to happen within the solar system. By the time we are done with this unit the word "space" will have plenty of meaning.
