Introduction

Romanticism is shown through many romantic artists such as Edgar Allen Poe, or Walt Whitman. However this quest of webs is about Henry Wadsworth Longfellow! with works such as "Paul Revere's Ride" , "A Shadow" and A Psalm Of Life".

Task

You will read several of his poems and look at some of the questions bellow. From there you will come up with a one page response for each poem you read, using a different quetion for each different poem.

1. What Elements of Romanticism does the author use? How do they effect the story

2. What is the speaker's tone? Which words reveal his tone?

3. What is the theme of this poem?

4. Who is the speaker in this poem? How would you describe this persona?

5. What figures of speach are used? How do they contribute to the tone?

Compare and contrast Henry's work to other authors such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Emily Dickenson, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Make a Venn diagram and answer the questions below.
