Vilasquest: Orbitals, Nodes and Quantum numbers

Introduction

by Charlotte Berrezueta, Andrés Guerrero, Emilia Calderón and Tommy Parra.

A WebQuest designed to explain these three key concepts of quantum chemistry: orbital, node and quatum numbers.

We hope that this quest will help you to better understand these mysterious concepts.

Task

You will learn through concepts, images and videos that quantum chemistry is an abstract science which studies the hydrogen atom and the possible place of its electrons in the atom orbitals.

Orbital: Where there is a probability of finding the electron.

Node: A region where you can't find the electron.

Quantum numbers: They indicate where the electron could be.

It isn't necessary to tell you that an atom is composed by protons, neutrons and electrons, which are the main topic of quantum chemistry.
