Water Forms and States

Introduction

Hello, students! Today you will have the chance to explore and think about something that we use every day. First, we will learn about where water is found. Next, we will learn about the natural states that water takes form in. Once I am confident that you fully understand these concepts, you will be given materials to create a model with various materials.

Complete the water graphic organizer as you go through each task.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RGDZi-tRJU8sLlGkaUmNGA5ZdyeV6Ki3/view?usp=sharing

Task

With your partner, you will learn more about water. You will be given a graphic organizer to fill out together, as you read through these different tasks. Make sure you read closely to learn the important facts that the tasks will show you. When you have completed the graphic organizer with your partner, you will answer the 10 questions below independently.

After you have completed these tasks, raise your hand and I will give you your tray of materials to create your model of a water source.

Evaluation

Great work today, boys and girls. Please give me your filled-in graphic organizer and questions.

Now it is time to show what you learned. I have a tray with playdough and two plates. On one plate you will create a location that will have one form of water included in it. On the other plate, you will create a different location to display the other form of water. When we are all done, we will have a gallery walk to see how your creations compare to one another. You will then be asked to partner up with a classmate to discuss your creations.

Conclusion

Wonderful job! You have learned so much about water. Will you look at it differently now?

Performance Expectation: Obtain and communicate information to identify where water is found on Earth and that it can be solid or liquid.

Clarification Statement: Students use reliable sources to identify the patterns of where water is found and its natural form (solid or liquid).
Examples of how water can be found on Earth as water or ice could include a frozen pond, a liquid pond, a frozen
lake, or a liquid lake.

Disciplinary Core Ideas: Water is found in the ocean, rivers, lakes, and ponds. Water exists as solid ice and in liquid form. (LE.ESS2C.a)
