All About Bears

Introduction

Bear, a character in a book written by Sergio Ruzzier, woke up from his winter hibernation looking for something to eat. He sees a  tempting behive and goes right for it. That is until he notices a bee. Bear is scared of bees and believes that they are big and scary with large teeth and sharp claws. But bee explians that he described himself.

Bee reveals himself and offers Bear some honey, proving that their is nothing for him to be afraid of. Bear now realizes that bees are not bad and out to hurt him, but to help him get some honey.

Task

After you read the book, Bear and Bee (by Sergio Ruzzier), work independently to find out more about bears. You will look for information to answer the following questions:

 

How many different types of bears are there?

Where do bears live?

What do bears eat?

How do bears find their food?

What enemies does a bear have?

How does a bear protect itself?

Describe three interesting facts aboutyour favorite type of bear.

Process

You are now ready to begin your quest for information about bears. You will search through the given websites for the answers. Skim through the websites and find the answers to all of the questions. To find you will then find three interesting things about bears. After that you are to pic your favorite bear and use google and find a new site focused around that bear. Find three facts and write them down as well as the website to share with your friends. After you have completed these tasks you will be asked to create  poster on your favorite bear!

Evaluation

Students are expected to complete each question with a proper answer.

Students must take their time and turn in quality work.

Students will design a poster on their favorite bear: this must include name of bear, habitat, enemies, food, and three other intersting facts about their bear.

Students will then present their poster to the class.

Thank you for your hard work learning about bears! You have read the book Bear and Bee, you have conducted research and answered many questions about bears, created a poster on your favorite bear, and shared with the class!

Introduction

This webquest is intended for first grade students to get a basic understanding of bears: the types; where they live; what they eat; who their enemies are; and other interesting facts.

Learners

This lesson is anchored in first grade science and involves art to a lesser extent. The lesson can easily be extended to students in grades two and three.

Students learn about the habitat and characteristics of bears as a result of this lesson. They will work independently to answer questions and construct projects within the process portion of the quest.
