Introduction
Have you ever been texting someone and then found out from a friend it wasn't who you thought it was?
Have you ever messaged someone online you thought was a friend, and found out it was a complete stranger?
Have you ever sent or received sexual pictures on your phone or the internet and then had someone else post them online?
Not one of these scenarios sound like fun or something you would want to happen on purpose!
In this webquest, learners will research the dangers of catfishing online and sexting, and inform peers about the dangers.
Task
Students will create a way to inform classmates within their school about the dangers of catfishing and sexting. They can create anything they think will get information easily to al students. Some ideas may include:
- Posters for the hallways/classrooms
- Letter to be sent home
- Brochure handed out to students
- Card handed out to students
- Infographic
- Anything else students may come up with!
Below are some resources you may use, but you are not limited to just these.
This website offers examples of informative posters: https://bananamagic.wordpress.com/2011/01/21/informative-poster-example…
This website allows you to make free infographics: https://venngage.com/
This website allows you to make brochures: https://www.lucidpress.com/pages/templates/brochures
Process
Students will work in groups of 2 or 3 to create a way to get informtion out to all the students in their school. They must create an artifact that is a visual representation of their information. The definition of artifact can be found here: http://www.dictionary.com/browse/artifact
Students must decide who will play each role in the group. Roles innclude a researcher, a recorder, and a summarizer. All students will be presenters together. Information on group roles can be found here:
http://www.dailyteachingtools.com/cooperative-learning-tasks.html#6
Students may choose how they want to represent their information. Listed below is the list of requirements each group must have represented:
- Definition/explanation of catfshing and sexting
- Examples of real life catfishing or sexting gone wrong
- 2-3 statistics/data
- Why is this a problem? Why is this dangerous?
- What should students look out for to avoid this?

Once your artifact is created, you will create a presentation about how, where, and why you chose to create what you did. You will create a Prezi using this website:
Your Prezi should include:
- A description of your artfact
- How will you use your artifact to get information out to all students (is it handed out? posted? mailed?...)
- Why did you choose this artifact and method?
- Why do you think this will be effective?
- A list of your sources
