Introduction
EQ(s):
- Was there one specific even that caused WWI?
- Could one country be blamed for WWI?
- Do peace treaties always yield peace?
By the end of the WebQuest you will be able to…
- Analyze the key catalysts of war
Task
You will produce a product that will illustrate your understanding of the implications of WWI.
Your goal is to inform the Allied leaders who wrote the Treaty of Versailles as a political advisor to the architects of the treaty (Woodrow Wilson, Georges Clemenceau, David Lloyd George). Imagine if you could have sat at the table during the Paris Peace Conference where Wilson, Clemenceau, and George decided what the terms of the treaty should be as far as how to handle Germany. Would you have advised them to punish Germany? Why or why not?
You need to write a rationale for or against the terms imposed on Germany. If you disagree with the leaders’ decision, describe an alternative that would be beneficial to the victorious Allies, but prevent turmoil and future conflict with Germany.
Your argument should rely on information found in the resources and should be convincing.

French concerns – Suffered the greatest amount of casualties, close to Germany
British concerns – maintain trade with Germany, experienced little devastation relatively speaking
U.S. concerns – ensure peace and free trade (two are related).
