Curriculum Controversy? Montessorian theory might help...

Introduction

With the constraints of the desk, minimal socailization, and the lack of choice, it would seem that more schools would incorporate the Montessori approach. I recently learned more about this approach and the drawbacks of many school districts. That drawback, of course, is money. I then began to think, which is more important? The money or having children be their best selves and not having to face punishment for being themselves and developing into who they are naturally.

Task

Explore the Montessori approach and juxtapose the curriculum that is currently being followed in areas where behavior is an issue. Implement the appraoch for 8 weeks to determine if there are any significant differences or changes in behavior among the population of students observed.

Process

Develop an 8 week curriculum to implement on a specified amount of students.

Evaluation

After the end of the 8 week implementation, document whether or not there was improvement in behavior.

Conclusion

I believe that the Montessori approach would be effective for ALL students, more specifically, those students who have behavior issues due to the constraints faced in the traditional classroom setting.
