Introduction
By Olivia Shull
This webquest is a stimulated diary for students grades 2-5 and the subject area is creative tasks.
Everybody knows the story of Rosa Parks. How she refused to leave her seat in a time where that was unacceptable. We have begun learning about our countries history with racism and segregation, but what else did Rosa Parks have to go through? What happened before she got on that bus? Where was she? Who did she say “No” to? What happened after she got removed from the bus? You are in a time where you do not receive equality and you are looked down upon. How do you feel the day you said “no” on the bus? What pushed you to say no? Remember you were just forcefully removed from a bus and arrested. What would you write in your diary?

Task
You are to create a diary as if you are Rosa Parks. You will describe Rosa Parks character and personality, her thoughts on the day of her arrest, and also the setting she lived in at that time. You will therefore have a new insight to racism in the mid 1900’s, and especially in Alabama.

Process
First, you will need to do some research about Rosa Parks, her family, and racism during this time. Here are some resources to assist you:

Now that you have a better understanding of who Rosa Parks is, you will write in her diary as if you are her during the week of her arrest. What was she thinking as she refused to move? What was she thinking while getting arrested? What was she thinking during the boycott?
