ESH340 Week 7 Tutorial Activity - Communicable and Chronic Diseases

Introduction

This lesson, you will be learning about Communicable and Chronic (CC) Diseases

It is important for you to know about these diseases because they can occur from the lifestyle choices that you make and even through just sharing things!

Before we start to research some of these diseases, here are some important facts that you need to know:

Communicable Diseases:

  • Spread from person to person or from an animal to a person
  • These diseases often spread through airborne viruses, bacteria, blood or other bodily fluids
  • Are infectious and contageous

Chronic Diseases:

  • Are generally not cured completely
  • Are not infectious nor contageous
  • Generally last for long periods of time
  • Do not always show symptoms

Task

Today you will participate in a WebQuest!

Your task for this lesson is to choose a Communicable or Chronic Disease to research. I will provide you with some websites to look up so you do not need to use google for this task.

  • Hepatitis B
  • Cancer

  • Symptoms of this disease
  • Treatments available (if there are any)
  • How to prevent the disease (if possible)

Evaluation

This is the assessment rubric on which you will be graded for this activity.

Conclusion

If you would like to research a different disease that is not on the list, make sure you come and ask me first.

Some things to remember...

  • This lesson is for your learning purposes only, it is not intended for you to self-diagnose.
  • If you are worried about any of these diseases or some of the symptoms, make sure that you speak to your family about it (or your teacher!)
  • These are very serious health conditions, I want to see you thinking and acting maturely when you are researching these diseases!
