Introduction

6th grade world geography students will be able to....

Apply their knowledge of the 5 Themes of Geography to interpret and evaluate information  from internet sites and classify them under the Themes of Geography.

Will demonstrate their knowledge of the 5 themes and many other vocabulary words related to China i.e.:  Culture, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Communism, Chinese Communist Party, hydroelectricity, terrace farming etc.

 Classify information about China, Japan and the Koreas  into the themes of Place, Region, International Human and Environment, Location and Movement.

Collaborate and create a Padlet discussing the similarities and differences of the cultural characteristics of China, Japan and the Koreas.

Introduction

World Geography is about discovering new places you have never heard about before! The continent of Asia has a beautiful and ancient history that can be traced back thousands of years! You have studies the geography of China, Japan and the Koreas and now you’ll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in this research Webquest.

In this Webquest, you would work as a group to apply the 5 themes of geography and classify information you learn about China,  Japan and the Koreas.

Remember our 5 Themes of Geography?

The 5 Themes of Geography were invented by the National Geographic Society to help career geographers classify information about a place they are studying.

1.      Place- A mix of natural and cultural characteristics.

2.      Region- A group of places brought together by similar characteristics, an example can be a common language, history, physical features etc.

3.      Interaction- Human and Environment- How humans change the environment to meet their needs.

4.      Location- Where a place is on a map, location is divided into absolute location and relative location.

5.      Movement -How goods, people and ideas get from one place to another.
