The French & Indian War

Introduction

During the 1700's, Britain and France were two of the strongest powers in Europe.  The countries competed for wealth and empire throughout the rest of the world.  The rivalry between the two countries carried over to their North American colonies, causing bitter feelings between English and French colonists.

This bitterness grew worse when the British decided to move into the Ohio River Valley, an area the French regarded as theirs.  The tension grew worse in the 1740's when the British began building Forts for fur traders in the Ohio River valley.

The tensions continued to build until they escalated into a war between the two powerful nations.  Knowing that they would need allies, both France and England tried to recruit help from the various Native American tribes.

This website was designed for use in middle school Social Studies classes that focus on American History.  While the French and Indian War is sometimes quickly covered as a result of time, it is an important time period in colonial history as it sets the stage for the American Revolution.

Though I chose to have the students to create a quilt for their final project, the webquest can be modified to include other final projects such as a timeline, an abc book, or a poster trifold.  Technology can also be include by having the students create power points, or the use of interactive sites such as Glogster or Capzles.
