Task

You have been contacted by a world famous news agency!  They want to find the best online multiplication games for students and have chosen you and your partner to find them!  Your task is to explore several multiplication websites offering arcade-style games to aid in the memorization of multiplication facts.  After visiting each site and playing the games you will create a Top Ten List of your favorite sites and present it to the class.  You will also create a ten slide PowerPoint in the form of Multiplication Flashcards using the problems you have the most trouble memorizing.  You will also take a multiplication quiz and finally write a review about this WebQuest in your mathematics journal.

Process
STEP 1

You will be assigned a partner by your teacher.  You need to meet with your partner and decide who is going to fill each of the following jobs.

Job 1 : Reporter - This person will write short notes about the websites you visit and any multiplication facts you have trouble answering.

Job 2: Presenter - This person will be responsible for showing the class your Top Ten presentation and Multiplication Flash Card PowerPoint.

Once you have decided what your jobs will be, go to the RESOURCESsection at the bottom of this page and print out the Multiplication Website Review Sheet to use as you evaluate each site.  It is theReporter's job to fill this sheet out after each site has been viewed!

Step 2

Welcome to the game section of this WebQuest!  Each one of you will play the games and rate them as a team.  Please use theMultiplication Website Review Sheet to record your observations.  When you are done, add up your ratings for each game.  These ratings will be used to create your Top Ten List.  Be sure to write down any multiplication facts you are struggling with at the bottom of the sheet.  These facts will help you create yourMultiplication Flash Cards in Step 4 of the WebQuest.  Next visit CreateAGraph and create a bar graph for each of your Game Websites.  You will make a title (game website), x axis Rating Categories, Y axis Ratings, put the data in with a min and max of 0-10.  You will then preview this graph and then copy and paste it into your Google Slide.

Step 3

You will now work as a team to create a TOP TEN LIST using information from the Multiplication Website Review Sheet.  First, take the total score for each website and arrange them in order from highest to lowest.  This will determine your order of best to worst websites.  If you have two or more websites with the same score, place them in the list alphabetically at the correct location.  Next, brainstorm ideas for delivering your TOP TEN LIST in a creative and fun way.  You will use Google Slides "Exploring Multiplication" !  Your presentation needs to list your ten websites in order of best to worst.  Please include a short description (at least two sentences for pros and cons) about each site.  This list will be presented to the class by thePRESENTER of your group when you finish the WebQuest.

Step 4

Working as a team, you will use the multiplication facts written down at the bottom of the Multiplication Review Sheet as well as any other multiplication facts to create a Slide Show Presentation using google slides.  You will use the Exploring Multiplication Templateprovided in the RESOURCES section at the bottom of the page.   Your job is to click on the slides and change the facts and answers to the ones listed at the bottom of your Multiplication Review Sheet and any other multiplication facts.  To make this easy, click behind each number and backspace to delete them.  Press the numbers on your keyboard to add them to the slide.  IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE THE DELETE BUTTON.  THIS MAY CAUSE SEVERAL PROBLEMS WHEN CHANGING THE INFORMATION!  All of the animations and slide transitions have been done for you.  To finish your flash cards, change the background using the DESIGN tab at the top of the page.  Once you have chosen a background and all of your facts have been changed, save your presentation as "Exploring Multiplication "two names" on the google drive.

Step 5

Your journey is nearly complete!  Your next activity is to complete theMultiplication Quiz found under the QUIZ section of the WebQuest.  Your team will answer the twenty questions as a final assessment of the knowledge you have acquired.  The questions are multiple choice, so take your time and look at each answer carefully!

Step 6

Your final step is to Write A Review of this WebQuest in your Mathematics Journal.  Your review should answer the following questions:

1) What did you like about the WebQuest.
2) What did you not like about the WebQuest.
3) What can your teacher do to make this WebQuest better?
4) How did this WebQuest help you in the memorization of multiplication facts?
