Lacrosse Goalie Training 101

Introduction

Hey sports fanatics! Tired of watching your average Sports Center segment? Interested in the next upcoming sport? Lacrosse is just for you! Lacrosse was orginally started by Native Americans and was referred to as stickball (Claydon,2013). According to the US Lacrosse organization (2015) “Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports of the high school level” (US Lacrosse). Lacrosse is growing rapidly around America and is being more recognized as a team sport that athletes want to participate in. 

On a lacrosse feild there are three attackmen, three midfielders, three defenders,and a goalie. The attackmen are the offensive players on the feild. The midfielders are offense and defensive players and play both sides of the feild. The defenders keep the opposing teams attack from scoring. The last and the most difficult position to play, is the goalie. The goalie is consider the last line of defense for a team.The purpose of this WebQuest is to give newer athletes a basic concept of a lacrosse goalie and focus on lacrosse goalie training. This training will include how to properly wear goalie equipment and secondly agility training for goalies. 

Lacrosse is sixty minutes of dedication, teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill. Honed with an enjoyable sports experience. Are YOU ready for the challenge?

 

Task

This training will include the basic rules of lacrosse, how to properly wear goalie equioment, agility training, and a strategic breakdown of goalie approaches. Agility training is essential to becoming a great goalie because one has to be quick and light on their feet in order to respond to the different directions of the shots. Goalies cannot become stagnat in their positioning because they will be unable to respond to how fast the ball is moving.
