2nd Grade Math 2.MD.8c

You have been working very hard to save up your money! Now your parents are letting you have a sleepover with all of your best friends. You need to go grocery shopping to make sure that you and your friends will have enough junk food to keep you partying all night! You will need to determine how many people you will be inviting and then budget the items you want with the money you have. Happy shopping!!

Task

You have $150 to spend at the grocery store to get food for your sleepover. You will review the facts about money, you will search for prices on the items you want, and you will determine how much money you will get back once you pay.

Process

Watch the video to review the funamentals of counting money and to develop an understanding of what each coin and bill or worth.

After you have watched the video, answer the following questions:

1. How much money do I have in my pocket, if I have a nickle, 2 quaters, 3 dimes, and 2 pennies?

2. I have 75 cents but only in nickles, How many nickles do I have?

Create a list of friends that you would like to invite to determine how much food/drinks you will need to accomdate everyone. Once your list is created, visit the Walmart website and budget/search foods you will buy.

Once you have created a grocery list, including prices, add up how much money you are estimated to spend. Remember you only have $150 dollars to use!

Now you can go shopping and complete your task, collect all the items on your list and give the casher your $150. If you spend $122 dollars at Walmart, detemine how much change you will get back?
