Non-Fiction Listening Center - Coyotes Webquest

Introduction

Today you will explore coyotes and learn about their diet, habitat, hunting partners, and other interesting Fun Facts.  Be sure to write down some interesting facts that you learned during your webquest in your "investigator notebook" and be ready to share with your classmates or your turn-and-tell partner. 

Task

Have you ever heard a pack of coyotes howl? Would you know what to do if you come across a coyote in your backyard? Can you guess why a coyote would hunt with a badger? Find out what coyotes eat, how fast they can run, and how many pups are in a litter.  

These are just some of the interesting questions and information you will uncover during your webquest today!

 

Process

Follow the three links below to find answers to all of your coyote questions. Be sure to write down interesting facts or any questions that weren't answered during this webquest. Have fun young investigators!

1)   Click on the link from Arkive.org and listen to coyotes' howl. Also, take a look at the "Top Facts" in the upper right corner and see what coyotes eat.

2)   Next, click on the link from EasyScienceForKids.com and explore the "Fun Facts." Notice how big coyotes are and how many pups they have. Also, find out what you should do if you see a coyote.

3)   Lastly, take a look at the video from AnimalPlanet.com entitled: "Top 10 Odd Animal Couples: Badger & Coyote." See if you can figure out why a coyote and badger would hunt together.

Evaluation

Once you have explored the different links and gathered enough information, write down some interesting facts in your "investigator notebook" and be ready to share in large group or with your turn-and-tell partner.
