Introduction
Objective: I can solve one and two step compare problems using data represented in scaled bar graphs.
Resources:
1. Solving problems using bar graphs
2. Using data to solve problems
3. Go Math page 119
5. How to create models for word problems.
6. Quick: Parts of a Bar Graph.
Task
Task:

Use the data in the tally chart to make a bar graph. Then, answer the questions. For each question be sure to:
- Write the number sentence that helped you solve and draw a model drawing that helps you solve.
- Identify the key words in the problem and what operations those words let you know to do.
- Describe the steps you took to solve the problem.
Questions:
- Andrew's favorite food is the food that has 5 fewer votes than red. Which food is this?
- How many more students liked pizza and burgers combined than hotdogs?
- How many students voted in all?
- What would the bar graph look like if there were another category called "fries" and a total of 50 students voted?
Process
Divide your paper into four sections like below. In each section answer ONE question. Make sure you include the 3 important elements of your response.

Success Criteria
Check your work to make sure you have each of these items:
- I wrote a number sentence for each problem.
- I created a model drawing for each problem.
- I identified the key words in each problem.
- I described which operation I needed to do, and HOW I know.
- I described the steps I took to solve the problem (using sequence words like first, next, and last).
- I made choices that helped me grow as a learner.
- I used the information tools available to guide and extend my inquiry.
