List Three Guidelines When Planning a Meal

1. Your plan should be laid out so that you will know how many meals you will eat every day. Times that you will be eating these meals are also important so you can write them down as well.

2. Layout how many servings from each food group you will be eating and which meal you will be eating them. You should also be able to state how many calories per day that you will ingest.

3. Prepare a grocery list so that you will only purchase what you are going to eat for the entire week.

Describe Three (3) Factors that affect Meal Planning

Family member’s palate may be different than yours, or other factors may interfere with meal planning. These factors may include:

  • Economics: Families experiencing financial difficulties may not be able to buy the quality foods needed. Cause of their lower income bracket they may not be able to purchase costly foods, thereby having to rely on foods whose cost may be low but the food may not be of good quality.
  • Family size: If there is a large family, and the money is just not there to cover the amount of food needed for each family member, corners have to be cut. Sometimes cutting corners mean that meals may not be nutritionally sound.
  • Season: Remember, depending on the time of the year it is, you taste in food changes. When it hot in the islands, people have a tendency to cook light. Also when it’s hot islanders like cool drinks
