Resources

Introduction

This WebQuest is designed for students to explore all of the Earths resources both natural and man made. The students will be researching what the resources are, how they effect everyday life, how they are made or extracted, what would happen if we didn't have it, also if there are different things that could be used. I could like my students to dig deep into a specific resource and know everything about it so that they can help the entire class learn about it and what we would do without it.

Task

I want students to determine what resources are being used up and which ones we can recycle, my end goal would be to have them do what ever they want to show me how they would use the resource better, or recycle one we aren’t, create a new technology that could replace an existing limited natural resource. I want them to be able to think outside the box and create new solutions to a problem that we have so that when they grow up if this project is something that they would actually like to create and make a new resource then they are able to. In doing so they will be finding pictures and articles printed out and highlighted with all of their research, finding books to share with the class, I want everything that they find to be shared with the class step by step in whatever manner they see fit.

Process
  • Find a resource that you are interested in and claim it as your project, I would like to have each student researching a different resource
  • Start researching that resource using articles, books, documentaries, videos, pictures, websites, or even interviews
  • Find if it is a natural resource or man made, is it unlimited and if not will we run out of it soon, can it be recycled, can something else be used in its place, is it hard to make, what are the products that are made as a result of having that resource?
  • Save all research to make some sort of final project weather it be a poster, pamflet, power point, video, paper, diagram, game, or a newspaper/magazine article
  • Be able to present your findings to the whole class answering all of the above questions along with any additional questions asked by the class at the end of your presentation, the project in the previous step will also be presented

Teacher Page

This project was created so that each student can create something that they are proud of. I remember how frusterating it was in school to have to do projects that I didn't like so I want every student to be able to create a project that is a strong suit for them. It is not about them knowing how to be able to present information a certain way it is about the student learning in a way that they will remember for their entire life.

Great! Now go out there and get your students interested in learning!!!
