Rudimentary Drumming

Introduction

Rudimental Drumming

Percussion by defintion is any instrument played by striking with the hand or with a handheld beat or by shaking including drums, cymbals, xylophones, gongs, bells and rattles. With this being said one can assume that percussion has been around as long as life has been thriving. Percussion is all around us and whether we know it or not, is in everything we do. Percussion is not only the organized sound but also the unorganized sound as well.

Military drummers were the first to begin organizing the unorganized into structure and form. This structure and form became known as modern day rudiments. Rudiments are the foundation of everything that perucssion is. Rudiments are organized into 2 groups: 1. Traditional, and 2. Hybrid. Traditional rudiments are basic drumming fundamentals while the hybrid rudiments are expanded and improved upon the traditional rudiments.

If you were approached to have your research about rudiments and their creation put into a brochure for beginning percussion students, how would you make sure your material got published? Be creative!
