Task

Using the following web quest make sure you can fill in all the blamks on your worksheet.

Then try the conclusion in the final section of the webquest

Process
Evaluation

You should now have a completed WebQuest review sheet.
You should have a clear idea of the claims made by the Norwich School's newsletter and articles in the daily newspapers.
You should also be aware of how the Durham study by-passed the peer review process, and why such peer review is essential.
The GCSE results of 2007, (when taken at face value like much of the other results published in the newspapers) don't seem to promote the fish oil tablets as much!

Your final task then, is to pull-together all of your findings and write back to the Headteacher suggesting a follow-up to his fish oil article in the next school newsletter.

You should explain:

  • how the peer review process works and why it is important
  • how the Durham results bypassed the peer review process
  • problems linked to possible bias and marketing motives
  • the 2007 GCSE results and their possible meaning
