In this webquest you will be able to plan and customize your very own trip to Edinburgh, a city where men in kilts, who play bagpipes, are a common sight.

Task

TASK

Your job is to plan your trip! That means you will be in charge of booking flights, planning activities, and making sure you have a place to stay at night.

You will be saving all of the information you find into a new Word document with your name in the title.

Have fun and we'll see you in Scotland!

These are ruins of an old church, also known as a kirk in Scottish.

Process

Planning your trip:

You have a budget to book a week in Edinburgh:

You have 3.400kr for food, accomodations and activities. You also have 1,500kr for your plane ticket. The trip can be any seven days in a row in this month.

1. Book your plane ticket.

With your 1,500kr budget, book plane tickets to and from Edinburgh (we'll pretend we live in Copenhagen for this activity). Take a screenshot of the flight details on your computer and paste them into a Word document (including the price, flight number, and times of departure and arrival).

Any leftover money can be transferred over to other costs of the trip.

2. Where are you going to stay?

Now it's time to plan accomodations. Do some quick google research on some hostels and hotels in Edinburgh. Find somewhere suitabe to stay and book it for the nights you'll be needing. Take another screenshot of this booking (cost, dates, location, ammendities) and put it in the same Word document as your flight details.

3. What are you going to do?

Paste all names, locations, and costs into your Word document. Don't forget to include a picture of each activity.

Sightseeing: Do some more research and choose three must see attractions to visit on your trip. Remember to look at costs.

Culture: Choose three museums, or tours to check out while you're in Edinburgh. What kind of things could you see and learn there?

Shopping: Find three stores or shops in Edinburgh where you can stock up on souveniers and other cheap scottish wares. What are you looking to buy?

Food and drink: Find three places to enjoy your dinner while in Scotland. Fancy something local?

Meet the locals!

Since the whole point of our online adventure is to learn about Scotland as an English speaking country, let's explore how the Scottish people talk and get some of their thoughts and viewpoints.

1. Try to guess what the following words could mean before watching the video to check if you're right.

Did you get a feel for how Scottish people talk? What were they going on about? A referendum on independance? Well, you'd better do some research so you have something to talk about once you get to Edinburgh.

Find out what a referendum is and what it would mean to Scotland if they had one on independance. Write some quick notes into your word document so you have them handy. Six or seven points should be enough to get you through a conversation.

3. Here's where the trip becomes your own. Double check all of your trip details one last time and then get creative. Think of a way to costumise your travel documents in a way that can be presented in class. Some examples could be:

a) Print, Cut, Organise, and Paste all of your information into your workbook. Make it look like a travel journal.

b) Create your own travel wallet out of construction paper. Arrange all of your things inside of it as if you were really going to be travelling with them.

c) Anything you can think of that you would like to do!

Have fun, and I can't wait to hear all about your trip!

Evaluation

Evaluation:

You will be evaluated on how thouroughly you have answered each question. You will recieve extra points for staying in budget, picking unique places to visit, and your organisation.

Conclusion
