Introduction
Within this lesson we will gain an understanding of the sequence of events in a story. The structure of the story is the how a story is put togehter. The events in a story happen in a certain order. You will read the story "From Head to Toe" by Eric Carle. Be sure to pay attention to the characters and what they do to understand the story.
Task
After reading the story "From Head to Toe" students will be asked to recall detail of the story in chronological order. Students will need to explain what happend first, next and last on a graphic organizer.
Process
In order to fill out the graphic organizer in the correct order (first, middle, last) students will need to read the story two times. The first time students are focusing on the characters and what the story is about. The second time the student reads the selection, they will focus on the order of events in the story. After the story has been read for the second time, students will be asked to complete the graphic organizer by inputting what happend first, in the middle, and (last) at the end of the story.
Evaluation
Students performance will be evaluated by filling out the graphic organizer in the correct order. Students will evaluated on their ability to list what happens first, middle, and last in the story "From Head to Toe" by Eric Carle.
Conclusion
Overall, it is important that students gain an understanding of sequence of events. By understanding sequence of events, students will be able to recall the information within a story in the correct order.
