Introduction

Space

You just received a surprising letter in the mail.

If you know enough about NASA your name will be put into a drawing for a trip to the Space Station!

Time to start finding out all you can about them.

Task

You will need to find out all you can about NASA.  You will need to keep a Space Journal (notes) as you are searching for information. When you think you have found enough information you are to make a PowerPoint presentation to show to the selection committee (the class).

Process

What is NASA?  What do they do?  What do the people that work for NASA do? Does NASA only work in space?
These are just a few things you may want to research.

As you look at each web site below, write interesting facts you learn in your Space Journal. If you see a picture you might want to use when you make the PowerPoint, you may right click on the picture, choose Save Image As, and save it to your Picture folder.

Here is a short article about what NASA does.

This has a list of interesting facts.

This site is from NASA. It is called NASA KNOWS and it is written for students. Click on the boxes to learn things about NASA.  After you click on the box, you can scroll down and click on any of the topics that interest you.

Expedition 50.  Here you can learn about the current mission to the Space Station.

One of NASA's projects was to launch the Hubble Telescope.  Here are some links that will tell you about the telescope and let you see some of the picturers it took.

Fun Facts about the Hubble Telescope and a short video.

Video about the telescope - or you can read the facts printed under the video

Images from the Hubble Telescope: scroll to the bottom and click on a category, such as stars, to see the images. Click on the photos to make them larger.

Now that you have collected your information, it is time to make a PowerPoint to present to the selection committee (class). There is a page in your folder that will give you some tips on making the PowerPoint.

Evaluation

Share your PowerPoint presentation with the selection committee (the class).  After you have finished, ask them, by a show of hands, if they think you know enough about NASA to go to the Space Station.

Give your Space Journal (notes) to the teacher so she can see all the facts you found, even if you did not put them all in your presentation.

Congratulations!!

You have learned a lot about NASA.  I bet you will be one of the lucky ones that gets to go the Space Station!
