Introduction

By: Kaitlynn Ryndak

This webquest is to plan and budget a class trip to Whiteface Mountain where the 1932 and 1980 olympics took place. Students will need to budget for transportation, lodging, food, one day ski pass, and three attractions for a two night stay .

Students will embarc on a trip to where the olympics were held and explore all the mountain has to offer.  You and your classmates will be traveling by bus to Wilmington, New York for a two night stay.  This webquest activity will allow you to use a given budget to do three activities, and ski for a day. This webquest will provide students a chance to learn how to budget for a long trip.

Task

The mission of this Webquest is to create an itinerary for yourself  for each day with a budget of $2,000. The budget is for your own personal use not the class. The itinerary must include the day you want to ski, where you want to eat, the three activites you want to do and the cost of transportation and lodging.  Each activity needs the time, cost and location with it. The class trip with be a duration of three days and two nights leaving January 14th - January 16th.

Students will use the internet and the links provided to find a three star hotel or higher and the bus company we will be using to get to Whiteface Mountain. You must find out how much the transportaion will cost and how much the hotel will be per night. (2 night stay) Don't forget to include the resturants you want to eat at, while remaning in budget, the three activities you wish to do and how much a one day ski pass will cost!

Process

With the help of an organizational chart handed out in class, students will create and itinerary poster. Make sure to write down all options and prices while doing your searching as to make it easier and more organizized for the final poster that you will present to the class.

REMINDER: your budget is $2,000

1. The first step is to find an afforatble bus company to transport you and your classmates to Whiteface Mountain. Do not forget to include cost and to list all three choices in your chart in the spaces provided.

Keep in mind we will be staying for a total of two nights. This hotel needs to accomdate the 30 students in your class and the 7 chaperones attending this trip. Be sure to include prices for each website on your chart. Make sure your hotel includes breakfest for two mornings. Use these websites to search for hotels:

3. The next step in our Webquest is to find the resturants you will want to eat while there. You will need to accomdate for three lunches and three dinners. (Keeping in mind we will be leaving very early on January 14th arriving at lunch time and leaving after dinner on January 16th)

1. http://www.whiteface.com/plan/restaurants

4. The final step is to find out how much a one day ski pass will be and what activities you wish to do. The website you will be using gives two options for activites a Gold pass and an Olympic sites Passport, you need to determine which one you would like to purchase and how much the price will be. Be sure to include pricing for both on your chart. For the ski passes, be sure to include pricing for a one day teen pass and one day adult pass for the chaparones. This section can be done on this website:

Now that all your information has been collected and organized in the chart I provided, it is time to create an itinerary poster that will be presented to your classmates. It is imporatnt that your poster has all aspects of the trip such as transportation, lodging, three activities, the ski pass and the resturants you wish to eat at. The poster should also include the date and times of all events and the cheapest deals of all objectives. Make sure to collaborate with classmates to insure you all have the best deals!

Before starting your poster it is important to remember:

1. How much time did you put into this WebQuest? Does it refelct on your organizational chart and poster?

2. Where was most of your budget spent? Where was the least of your budget spent?

3. Was the budget to high or to low?

5. If you could go again what would you do different?

6. Would you go to Whiteface Mountain again?
