Introduction
What if you could create a lesson for your students that may hit on CRITICAL THINKING, COOPERATIVE LEARNING, and TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION? Interested? A well-written webQuest can PROMOTE STUDENT MOTIVATION , DEVELOP THINKING SKILLS, and ENGAGE STUDENTS in learning.
Does it peak your curiosity as a teacher that a tool such as a webQuest can be created so that your students can utilize technology (upper levels of SAMR) and challenge their critical thinking? In the following web quest, you will explore the individual components of a web quest in order to feel confident in writing your own web quest for your classroom / subject area.
Task
Each group will look at the parts of a webQuest individually, and examine example web quests in order to get ideas and information to organize and write a web quest for your class. Your group will focus on the parts of a webQuest, keeping in mind that you will eventually be creating your own webQuest for your classroom.
Process
Process:
*Get in a group - 4 members per group.
*Decide upon the roles for the members of your group: Each group member needs to be assigned a role:
techie - this person will complete the forms on his/her computer that will be sent to the teacher (group will help provide answers, techie records and submits the answers)
techie 2 - this person will create a keynote presentation and airplay it when it is time to share with the class
presenter - speaking on behalf of the group, this person will share with the other groups
facilitator - keep the group on track, on task, watch the time, help any other group member complete their task
*Use the answer sheet (pages) answer sheet (pdf) and links provided to discover the parts of a webQuest and answer specific questions about the information
*Send the completed answer sheet(1 per group) to Ms. Gaspar
*create a group keynote that will represent what your group would like to share / discuss regarding a webQuest:
*present the keynote to the other groups in class
*complete an evaluation
Evaluation
Conclusion
After completing a webQuest about creating and the components of a webQuest, hopefully you feel confident that you can create an effective webQuest that will enhance your teaching and incorporate technology, higher-level thinking, student engagement, and meaningful learning.
