Who am I and this is my skill!

Introduction

Imagine you are Michael Jordon, Peyton Manning, Tiger Woods, Derek Jeter, Alex Morgan, Serena Willians and so forth. You and your partner decide which sport you are best at and you are going to teach us about that sport and a main skill of the sport!

Task

You are going to pretend you are the pro athlete and coach of the sport you choose. As you teach us about your sport you pretend we are your new athletes that must learn the sport. You must give background information on the sport, why we need the sport ( what health benefits, social etc), main rules and main skil of the sport. If your sport uses multiple main skills just choose one you feel most comfortable teaching. Such as tennis you might pick the serve, or basketball the jump shot, etc.

Your final task is to create a handout about your sport, and teach us the skill, dress like who you are pretending to be and the class will guess which Pro you are after you presentation!

Process

1. You and your partner pick a sport and who you want to pretend to be. ( Check with me so we can make sure we don't have all the same sports).

2. Spend some time researching your sport on the interent, and books in library. ( We will use a little class time, but you wil mainly do this in your library class time)

Make sure you have:

1. Histoy of the Sport

2. Importance of the Sport ( health benefits, social, physical etc)

3. Main skill you want to teach

      -Euipment Needed

     - Steps of the Skill outlined

     - Main Goal of the skill ie.  Jump Shot=Score a goal etc

     - Maybe a sample video found on the internet so we can view the skill prior to trying

4. Create a small presentation for the class, only a little time spent on the history and importance, main part will be teaching the skill to the class, dress like the famous athelete as much as you can and let us guess which one you are!

Evaluation
PE Web Quest Beginning (1 point) Developing (2 points) Accomplished (3 points) Explemenaty ( 4 points)
History of the Sport Includes only 1 of the 3 required elements Contains 2 elements Contains 3 elements Contains all elements, and goes above and beyond for extra neat facts.
Importance of the Sport Incomplete less than 3 reasons Contains only 2 reasons Contains 3 reasons Contains all reasons and well organized and goes above and beyond.

Teaching the Skill

Does not teach the skill Teaches part of the skill, but not completely. Teaches the complete skill from start to finish. Teaches the complete skill, easy to follow, made sure we all could understand.

Handout

Does not contain  the four elements of a picture, skill, outline of skill excution, and importance Contains only 3 elements. Contains all 4 Elements. Contains all 4 elements and exceeds expectations.

Presentation

Does not follow directions, not long enough 10-15 minutes needed, does not state history importance, does not teach skill or participate Follows directions, but doesn't include two elements. Follows direction includes all elements. Follows directions, includes all elements, excellent presentation.
Conclusion

After researching and learning about a sport and teaching a specific skill you should be familialr with a few main ideas about these sports as well as maybe a new skill and maybe a new famous athlete you have never heard of!

You should have gained insights on how Physical Education connects with other areas in learning too!

Student's are expected to work on this project during their assigned library time.

This project will meet literacy, writing standards in researching information, comprehending it, using it for presentation and teaching skills to the classroom.

P.E. Standards

The student will understand the interrelationship between history and culture and games, sports, play, and dance

5-2.1      Identify critical elements/learning cues of a skill to improve personal performance and provide feedback to others in fundamental movement skills and specialized game skills (for example, making a triangle to set the volleyball).

5-5.1      Work cooperatively and productively in a small group to accomplish a set goal in both cooperative and competitive physical activities

5-6.5      Recognize that physical activity is an opportunity for positive social interaction.

5-6.6      Explain why individuals are attracted to certain physical activities.

Justification:

I chose this project for Physical Education to use the idea of Universal Design for Learning. Some may think technology cannot be used in PE or that other subjects never come up in Physical Education. This projects incorporates literacy skills, teaches students time managment, collaberation and presentation skills. Some students are not good at every skill we learn, this gives them a chance to pick something they enjoy and teach about it. Also some students are stronger with researching, developing handouts and the creative side of the project and they will be given points on that too. I would like them to teach the skill the best they can, but as long as they get the main idea of it is fine too it will not hurt them if they are not the best at it, we all make mistakes even the Pros! This is supposed to be a fun creative project with a little can we guess which athlete they are ( the idea is to dress as much like them as they can, certain athletes only wear certain brands, colors, etc, no they don't have to buy brand name items, but can use an old visor and put a nike check for Tiger Woods etc.
