Aims: This site is aims to infrom students of the signs, symptoms, prevention strategies, exclusion period and infectious period of whooping cough. Those whom are participating in the webQuest should gain a deep understanding of these areas of whooping cough and agin an insight in the necessary preventative action needed to stop the spead of whooping cough in our society.

Whooping cough is a highly contagious bacterial infection of the nose and throat caused by Bordetella pertussis (SA Health, 2012.). Beginning with a persistent, dry, irritating cough that progresses into intense coughing and followed by a distinctive whooping noise. Other symptoms may include a runny nose, tempreature and sometimes vomiting after coughing.
Task
In pairs your task is to research the highly contagious disease whooping cough. You need to work together to collect as much information as you can. You must include:
WHAT IS WHOOPING COUGH?
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS?
WHO IS AT RISK?
WHAT ARE THE PREVENTION STRATEGIES?
AT WHAT TIME IS WHOOPING COUGH MOST INFECTIOUS?
HOW LONG SHOULD YOU STAY AWAY FROM SCHOOL IF YOU HAVE WHOOPING COUGH?
You will use your information collected to create a poster or powerpoint to deliver to the class.

Conclusion
Whooping cough can affect everyone however, it affects the eardly and very young infants more severly.
There is a vaccine for whooping cough and can prevent the spread of this highly contagious disease.
