Who is Stephen King?

Introduction

One of the greatest writers of all time is currently living among us? He's been blessing us with his genius for over 30 years?? Longer??

Well...we need to find out who this is!

Task

You are a part of a world renowned journalist team.

Your team will be responsible for creating a presentation for the International Council of Literature recommending Stephen King for an award.

The presentation will have to contain specific details about King and his works.

You must then organize your research and present it to the council (your class).

Process

Use the internet and other sources to gather information. You may present the information gathered any way you deem most effective to your classmates. You cannot just copy and paste your information from the internet in a word document and call it yours.

It must be an original final product, with any quotations properly cited.

PHASE I:

Step One— Personal Information

What are 10 interesting new facts you learned about King? Why are they interesting?
Find at least three personal fears of King.
How was King's wife responsible for Carrie getting finished?
INCLUDE A PICTURE OF STEPHEN KING.

Step Two— Books

List 5 books written by King. Include a short description of each book and a picture of the book cover.

Step Three— Movies

Name at least three movies which were based on Stephen King’s novels. Include a short description of the movies and movie poster.

PHASE II:

Step Four — Reading

Read one of the following short stories. Use the link shared with you on GOOGLE Classroom. Write a review of the short story you choose.

"The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands"
"Word Processor of the Gods"
"Uncle Otto's Truck"

For the review, write one paragraph that discusses the following:

Provide brief descriptions of the setting, the point of view (who tells the story), the protagonist , and other major characters. If there is a distinct mood or tone, discuss that as well.

Give a concise plot summary. Along with the sequence of major events, you may want to discuss the book's climax and resolution, and/or literary devices such as foreshadowing.

PHASE III:

Step Six— Visual Representation / Presentation

Organize the information you found in Phase I into either a GOOGLE Slide or Canva. Remember to include all the pertinent information from your research into the slideshow.

Examples have been posted on GOOGLE Classroom for you to consider.

You should also include a review of the short story you chose. See the link above that gives you ideas on what to include in your review. The review should also be included in your slide show.

You will be asked to share these with the class.

Prior to the first student presentations the classroom teacher advises students of the three (3) components (parts) of their presentations.

1. Manner Presented To Audience: The manner in which you present your product to the audience (your fellow classmates and teacher.)

Silly, laughing, giggling and getting distracted during the presentation?

2. Prepared, organized, and truly did your best to showcase your product in a meaningful way?

3. Attentiveness and Respect: Amount of attentiveness and respectfulness shown to others during their presentations.

Evaluation

Evaluation

Students will be graded on the quality as well as the content of their final project.

Have you revised so that your finished product is reflective of your best effort?

Is the final product and presentation informative, and does it invoke a curiosity to further explore the works of the author?

Does your review generate interest in the novel without giving away too many details of the plot which would destroy the story?

Is the Personal Information section interesting and accurate?

Is your final project visually appealing?

A Student Self Evaluation Assessment is a good way to have students become responsible for their own learning.
