Introduction

World War I Webquest

"The War to End All Wars"

Introduction

The year is 1917, and the war in Europe is raging. The United States has entered the war, and its troops of volunteers and draftees are being sent to Europe. Though soldiers and pilots were men, many women enlisted as nurses and office workers. The war is having a huge impact on life in the United States. The economy and the government are focused on the war effort, and people and politicans are in heated debates about the involvement of the U.S.

Task

World War I Webquest

"The War to End All Wars"

The Task

The essential question that we are exploring through this webquest is "What is it like to be in a conflict?"

Each student will explore this question through the point of view of a participant in World War I: a pilot, a nurse, a soldier, or a civilian at home.

You will use primary source documents - letters, diaries, photos - and other resources.

Each student will create a PowerPoint presentation that helps the rest of the class learn about the experience of this participant in World War I.

Evaluation

1. Your Power Point must demonstrate what life was like for your person of interest.  You MUST use the website provided and the primary documents in this project.  Do not guess use the tools provided.

     A. Who did you choose and why

     B. Where would your person most likely have served?  Use Maps to show where?

     C. When did your person most likely serve?  Were they most likely to have volunteered or where they drafted?  Give some details and background on your character (use your imagination)

     D. What did they do?  What did they do during the war?  Was it an important job?  Once again, use your imagination to make a great presentation.

     E. Lastly, why did your person serve where they did?  Were they excited, scared, did they find what they were looking for?  Include the items they would have used every day during the war.

2. Your presentation will be graded on originality, how much detail you provided such as maps, background information, pictures/ videos.

3. This will count as a quiz grade so make sure you do a good job.  You may NOT work in groups.  This is an individual assignment.  Good Luck

4. When you have finished the assignment submit the Power Point to Canvass under the Webquest.  You MUST also answer the questions in the conclusion and add them to the end of the PowerPoint to receive full credit.
