Made in CELLS

Introduction

Have you ever wondered what we are all made of? All life is made of CELLS. They come in thousands of shapes and sizes! The human body has over 100 trillion of them, carrying out the dance of LIFE! They are so tiny that 10.000 could fit on the head of a pin! Cells are nurtured life on Earth for billions of years and they protected us from harm. Our science has barely begun to understand them. Now, let's explore CELLS!

Task

All cells belong one of two groups. We will learn them soon, so it's a mystery for you now. Let's get to the point! I'm giving you a challenge! Will you be able to do it? We'll see... So here's what you are going to do; first, I will give you some information about cell groups and then you will take a little quiz about it! Let's start now! GOOD LUCK!

Process

All living cells on this planet belong to one of two groups, they either going to be a eukaryotic organism or a prokaryotic organism.

All cells have a:

- Plasma membrane

- DNA

- Ribosomes that make protein. These are the similarities between Eukaryotes and Prokaryotes.

Now, let's talk about the differences between these two major types of cells!

Let's start with prokaryotes:

- They have no nucleus

- No membrane bound organelles

- Unicellular

-Genetic information is in cytoplasm (in the structure called plasmid.)

On the other hand, eukaryotes:

- Have nucleus and membrane bound organelles

- DNA is in the nucleus

- Highly specialized cells

- Can be unicellular or multicellular

Evaluation

Let's watch some videos to renew our knowledge about prokaryotes and eukaryotes, also we will learn about their structures and learn how to draw an eukaryotic and a prokaryotic cell.

Now that you see the structures of both cells, let's look at the drawings of them:

This one is an eukaryotic liver cell.

This one is a prokaryotic cell, which is called Escherichia Coli

AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR THE QUIZ!

Conclusion

Which statement is true about eukaryotic cells?

A) Less complexed

B) DNA is naked

C) They contain mitochondria

D) They don't have Rough and Smooth ER

Which kingdoms are considered as eukaryotic?

A) Eubacteria, Fungi

B) Protista, Eubacteria

C) Archaebacteria, Eubacteria

D) Fungi, Protista

Which statement is true about the differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?

A) Prokaryotes are much more complex, eukaryotes less complex

B) Eukaryotes have nucleus, prokaryotes have no nucleus

C)Eukaryotes are mostly small in size, prokaryotes are larger

D) In prokaryotes DNA is in nucleus, in eukaryotes genetic information is in the cytoplasm

Thank you for doing this mini quiz!
